On my way to Alan's parent's house from my parent's house I go through a little town called Allenhurst. I had to stop and take a picture for Alan. (it's not spelled the same but cool none the less)! It didn't take very long to drive through this little town. I guess I won't be going there on vacation anytime soon, but I'm sure I will be driving through many more times.
I wish there were a town with my name...maybe there is, somewhere out there...AmandaMelton..haha, that would be a funny name for a town. Maybe I will find it on my road trip this summer. I am leaving this weekend with my mom, aunt and cousins (from Las Vegas) they are flying in today and we are traveling to visit some of our extended family in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. I can't remember the last time I went on a road trip, but I'm getting pretty excited. Growing up with family all over the United States (and Europe) road tripping has been a usual occurrence in my life. Well, I better get to packing!! Hopefully I will be able to post about my adventures along the way!

The Big Oak
While visiting Alan and his parents over the weekend I really wanted to visit The Big Oak in downtown Thomasville. I saw a picture of it online and really wanted to see it in person. I know it's just a tree, but it really is beautiful! I included the picture of myself to show how big it really is. Across the street from the tree there is a camera set up that will take your picture with the tree and then you can get it online. All you do is call the number on your phone and it takes your picture. We really wanted to try it out but the sun was quickly setting, and as you can tell from my pictures (which did not turn out great), it probably would not have turned out too good either. Hopefully we can try again during our next visit!! Once I got home and uploaded all of my pictures from the weekend I quickly decided that my camera (just point and shoot) is taking less than adequate pictures lately. I am becoming very disappointed in the photo quality and that so many of my photos are out of focus. So, I am considering buying a new camera. I really want to just splurge and get an SLR, however, that's a very large splurge that I can delay until after I graduate because I will have my beautiful, amazing camera and lenses back for my Advanced Photojournalism class in the fall. Man I wish it were fall already, I really miss that camera. Hopefully I can get through the summer with this camera... I guess I'll just have to see.
Demolition Derby
It seems that lately I have been busy checking off things from my "yet to do list." Catching my first fish and now a demolition derby! I didn't know what to expect before the derby, but I must say that I had so much fun! There was even a little mug slingin' (onto the spectators that is). All of the drivers were crazy (I think they probably have to be). All of the cars were hilarious....all decorated pretty funny. One of the best is below.

The Moving Wall
The Moving Wall, a touring replica of Washington, D.C.'s Vietnam Memorial, came to Richmond Hill today. There was a parade of motorcycles, fire trucks, and police cars from around the area escorting the wall into town. Everyone came out and watched with their American flags in hand. It was really nice to see so many people out to support the event. The wall will be set up in the park all weekend.

Piccolo Spoleto
Over the weekend I traveled to Charleston to perform for Piccolo Spoleto. Our dance performance was during the day Saturday, so the rest of the weekend was spent traveling around downtown Charleston, seeing the sites, and then we ended up at the beach before we headed home Sunday. I have lived 2 hours from Charleston my whole life and have never been to visit. It reminds me a lot of Savannah...I haven't decide which one I like better. I didn't get to see enough of Charleston to know. I hope to go back and see more of the city soon! Even though the city was incredibly beautiful I didn't take very many pictures..this is probably the only decent one from the weekend.
Harley goes to the groomer
My dog, Harley, is pretty low maintenance for the most part. Even though she already has short hair, we decided to get her groomed (shaved) so that she wouldn't be so hot during the summer and because she sheds really badly. She looked so cute when she got home from the groomer's I had to get a picture of her. She looks so pretty (and I think she really loved all of the attention she was given at the doggy salon).
